TikTok, CapCut and Marvel Snap Game Banned in U.S.A and on Their Stores
In a tense showdown, the US Supreme Court set to decide on the fate of TikTok by Sunday 19th 2025. The popular social media app, used by over 170 million Americans, faces a federal ban unless the court acts.
United States - The ban, which has taken effect on Sunday, would prevent new downloads of TikTok on Apple and Google App Stores. While users who have already downloaded the app would still be able to use it, US companies would be barred from providing services to enable the distribution, maintenance, or updating of the app.
In the same ban process, other company's stock application like CapCut have also been included, whereby people have been using it to edit videos and photos. The Marvel Snap Game also has also decided to shutdown and remove the app too from the stores.
President-elect Donald Trump is considering issuing an executive order to delay the shutdown. Trump's incoming national security adviser, Mike Waltz, praised TikTok as a "fantastic platform" and expressed commitment to finding a way to preserve it while protecting users' data. according to the credit [Fox News]
"We're going to find a way to preserve it but protect people's data," Waltz said. Trump has said he should have time after taking office to pursue a solution.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been weighing options to keep TikTok available to users beyond Sunday. A White House official told the fellow news agency [Reuters] that Biden is legally unable to act absent a credible plan from ByteDance to divest TikTok.
However, the Biden administration may consider options to deffer the decision to Donald Trump, who will be sworn in on Monday. "Americans shouldn't expect to see TikTok suddenly banned on Sunday," an administration official said.
TikTok CEO has been invited to attend the President-elect's swearing-in ceremony and sit in a special seat, according to [The New York Times].
The Supreme Court's decision have big effects on TikTok in the US. The temporary ban, has affected the lives of millions of Americans who use the app for fun, socializing, and business.
