Early Life and Education
Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba was born on October 12, 1975, in present-day Lwengo District, Central Uganda. His parents, Vincent Nsamba and Gertrude Nsamba, instilled in him values of hard work and education. Mpuuga attended Kyamaganda Boys Demonstration School for his primary education and later joined Masaka Secondary School for his O-levels. He completed his A-levels at Nakyenyi Senior Secondary School.
After his secondary education, Mpuuga pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Makerere University. He later earned an MA in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the same institution. Additionally, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
His Career
Mpuuga began his career as a teacher at Uganda Martyrs High School, Rubaga, where he taught Geography and Economics from 1998 to 2003. He simultaneously served as Director of Masaka Town College from 2000 to 2002.
In 2001, Mpuuga co-founded Liberal Consult Ltd, an evaluation and monitoring firm that worked on contracts to monitor donor-funded projects in Uganda. He was also Partner and Managing Director of the company until 2004.
From 2003 to 2011, Mpuuga served as Principal and Managing Director of Datamine Technical Business School in Kampala.
In the Politics
Mpuuga's entry into politics began during his university days. He co-founded the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), a youth wing of the Democratic Party of Uganda.
In 1996, he actively participated in the presidential campaigns of Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere. Later, Mpuuga served as a member of the Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko (Parliament) from 1998 to 2010.
In 2011, Mpuuga contested for election as Member of Parliament for Masaka Municipality and won. He represented the constituency until 2021.

- Leader of the Opposition (May 24, 2021 – January 9, 2024)
- Deputy President, National Unity Platform (NUP)
